I was learning to write a narrative about a fairy tale but making it in my way by introducing new characters, new problems and different solution.  I found this tricky because it was hard to think of a story with different characters and problems.  My Next step is to learn more about Narrative writing.

Term 4 Week 6

                                                         Fantastic Friday Performing!
It's time to show the whole school what the fantastic Friday groups have been doing for the last 5 Weeks and I'll tell you what happened . . .

First Paige, Tanielle ,Chloe, Broody, Phoenix and I where all part of going in front of the whole school and showing what we did in the past 5 weeks Tanielle , Chloe and I just had to cut a strip of paper called  the mobuis  strip were there is  three different strips one is normal,one has a twist and one has 2 twist but I was glad that I just had to cut the strip because I didn't what to talk in front of the whole school!

Next we waited for the other groups to show what they have been doing.  My favourite  group was the Bollywood dancing group because there costumes were cool and there dance was so funny.  

Then it as our turn after them and I was so scared but I'm glad I just had to cut the strip of paper after the people talked we cut 1 by 1 Chloe started first she showed the loop to everyone and then started cutting.  While she was doing that Paige was asking what would happen and it split in 2 and then she showed them what it happened then it was my turn to cut but before I could start then when she finished talking I held up the strip and started cutting when I finished I held it up again to show everyone what it turned out it was a big 8! And now for the last one it turned into a chain  and then we moved into the next group which was glee.

Finally,The Glee started they sang a song from Friends ( a show on TV) and they did a little dance to go with it and it was delightful.

                                               In Conclusion
It was really fun I hope we do this next Year !

Dolphin Swimming

My Reflection
Was to learn how to do all the basics of swimming before learning how to do advance swimming.
I found it tricky and a bit easy to some of the basics of swimming like gliding , free style,  using a kick board while gliding, floating and gliding while floating on our back.
My Next step is to learn more of the basics of swimming before learning the advance. video

Term 4 Week 5

                                                      FANTASTIC FRIDAY!
It's Fantastic Friday again and lets see what we are doing today for cool science...

First, we got into groups of four or five and sat down together on the mat.  We listen to what we had to make today . 

Next, we got a recording sheet that we had to write on when we did every thing.  Our experiment today was the Mobius strip it was mostly a strip of paper that we had to do experiments on it first we did a normal loop and then a strip of paper with a twist.  Then we drew a line on the piece of the papers and wrote what happened.  What happened was that on the normal one just went around the strip on the out side but the strip with the one twist was different because when you drew a line on the strip it started on the out side and ended on the inside.  

Then, we looked at our recording sheet and looked at everything we wrote and looked at the next step when we had to cut the piece's of the strip we cut the normal one first and nothing happened it jut split into two pieces  but when got to the strip of paper with one twist something else happened IT TURNED INTO A TWISTED EIGHT! but before we could started more strips with 2,3 or 4 twist in it we all got called on the mat and we talked through what happened to our mobius strip and saw what happened if we did more twist but we first started to see what happens when you do 2 twists in it and then what!!! It turned into a long twisted chain and that's what happened when you did it to all the twist .

                                         In Conclusion
It was so fun doing that in my group and especially when we got to see what happened when you did more twist okay good bye!

Langauge features in fairy tales


My Reflection
Was to identifiy lanaguage features in fairytails.  I found it tricky to find adjectives,adverbs and similes in the story Thumbelina because of the words it was hard to find out if it was a adverb or a simile.
My next step is to write out the adverbs and find more similes.

Term 4 Week 4

                                                      Mini Golf and Sleep over!!
First, Shaniqua rang on Friday when I got home from my Nana's (Where I go after school or very early in the morning) I gave the phone to my Mum so she could talk to her, she said to Shaniqua that she will pick her up in Twenty minutes she put the phone down and said "You should clean up that room before she comes." to me because the room was a totally mess and when I say totally I mean totally a mess so I cleaned up as fast as I could so when it was clean I went to my  Mum to ask when we were going but she  said soon so I went back  to my room and waited .  "Caitlin time to get Shaniqua."  So we went to the car and got Shaniqua but was dark and starting to get Night time so picked Shaniqua up, got her some clothes and went back home to go  in the Morning asleep but Shaniqua and I Stayed up till Three woke up at 8:00 and waited till the after noon having fun on the way.


Next on Saturday,  We asked my sister what the time was because we wanted to go Halloween but we couldn't because we agreed that if we don't go Halloween we could watch a movie,have popcorn, have licorice chocolate bullets,pineapple chocolate, snake lollies, Cake and  coke. We watched Princess and the frog which  Shaniqua had choose we hadn't seen for ages we waited as the bad guy was trap in a grave which was sort of scary.  When it got close to the end my Mum said it was time for my sleep time but the movie wasn't finished! Well it was close to finished but still I had to listen to my mum but Shaniqua wasn't there so I looked for her but she was in my Mums room so I got her so we could go sleep. But I went to sleep really fast but Shaniqua went to sleep late in the cold gloomy night

Last on Sunday, We went to Mini Golf me and Shaniqua Choose the the same coloured and same height golf stck and a different colour ball we  came thourgh a door and started looking around it was my 2nd time here and we meet the same person.  We got a little bag of treats and said " Thank You." and started the course which was . . . The Captians course !  We had never done this course so we had a little  practice round and tried to get it in the little goal which was a  hole in the ground we did all the course which was fun but the scary one was the ship course it was hard till we heard a someone talking in fact it just came for no where I jumped to confusion but it was just the fake pirate.  Then all of a sudden ... BOOM! it was the cannon it shoot out a big splash of water.   But what  was so funny about MIni Golf was that it took me  7 hits just to get the ball in the hole for 2 of the course's .  The last course was tricky because there was a barrel that blocked the ball from getting in the  hole  which was tricky so I watch what everone else did and I tried to make a tatic of how t get the ball in and it took 3 hit which was good.  When the golf balls went down I watched mine go down thourght the hole but Shaniqua and Spencer Kept asking where there balls went but they went in to the cabin where we .  We droped Shaniqua back home but she had something to eat before she went .  When she left we had a nice sleep well aleast some of us.

                                                                                  My Grandparents
They are kind,clever,caring,friendly,polite,funny.   They speak Nuien and Maori.  They like to go to different places and travel.  They are as quiet as a mouse and joyful.  They look old, wrinkly and happy.  They are people who are kind,loving and thoughtful.

I was learning to write a character description of my Grandparent. First I had to watch a video, look at pictures and think about my and other Grandparents. I had to think of words to describe them and a dialogue, a simile, a metaphor and also what kind of person they are. I found it tricky because I didn't know what these words mean.
My Next step:
Is to write a description based on a real life person.

Term 4 Week 2

                                                                                  Fantastic
                                                       FRIDAY!!
                                                    Egg Drop
On Friday it was... FANTASTIC FRIDAY!!!!  I was so excited that I also got my favourite activity which was cool science .

First we got different materials like news paper,2 straws,a balloon and a plastic bag (which the stuff was in).  

Next, we got the egg and we had to try and make a strong but soft material that will make the egg not crack when  we dropped so what we did was that we cut the balloon open and stuck it together with tape and carefully got wrote Bob on it and drew eyes and a mouth .

Then, we started to wrap the news paper carefully around him and taped it on the sides then got the plastic bag and put the  news paper in side the plastic bag we tied the handles and taped it like everything else just in case then we just used the straws for antennas.

The Experiment begins we all droped our eggs and hoped they didn't crack so  I recoreded what happenned we unwraped it carefully and...IT CRACKED!! We didn't see the little hole and thats what caused it to crack.

                                                      In concluesion
It was really fun and I wanted to do more but I have to wait till Friday again!

Fact or Opinion?

Is to find the authors fact or opinion in 2 articles we had to Find the 1,2 and 3 opinions plus the connections in the article.  I found it hard to find the opinion in the atricles till they came  around to my partner and I.

Probability with Yahtzee

I was learning about probability.  We had to play the game Yahtzee and talk about which combinations were most likely and least likely. I found it tricky because the game was difficult because you keep getting a full house which was annoying and because if you keep getting the same thing over and over again it made it even harder to get a Yahtzee or a large or small straight .

Is to use probability in a different situation.

Term 4 Week 1

What I did in the Holidays!!!!

  • Cousin's house
"YAAAAAAAY! Its the Holidays!" I shouted on Friday when I got home and saw the Kittens which were so cute! Then I realised my Nana and papa were coming back from Australia  on Saturday at midnight which meant I couldn't see them  only on Monday  which was okay .   On Monday we went to my Nana's house and I was so  happy and tired so I went to sleep for a while and woke up at 1:00 and I went to go play with my toys till we got presents!!! I got some clothes, lipbam and hair ties but I got another one with more clothes and lollipops with the Frozen peoples face's on them.

On Tuesday I went to the Movies and watched born to dance at 2:00 which took 4 hours to watch because  we came to early so we got some thing to eat like sushi, and a drink and the movie was on so everyone be quite  its about to start and it was 2hours which was okay because it  was awesome and funny one person that I realised was Stan walker but in the movie he was put in jail then he got out but I don't want to spoil the movie for you.

On Wednesday I went to my Cousin's house and saw them there parent's weren't home so we  waited a while for them and then they got there present's and me and my cousin Jessie went to her room and played then drew lots of pictures till we had to go but I didn't want to so I tried to hide but they said I had to go so I did about 10 waves to them and I was up against the window say goodbye to them 3 times .

On Thursday and Friday I went to Otahu and Otara to buy a few stuff for the Pacific festivil but I did buy some taro .  We went to some places to look for the stuff we wanted but they were all gone before we got there so my nana said why didn't we come here first and I laughed because nana looked every where else but not here so we brought a table cloth and had something to ea so we didn't do much.

                                      In Concluesion
I think the Holidays was stressful for me because I had to go back and forth for a while back my Holiday was still FUN!!!

Kensuke's Kingdom Interview


                                                                      MY REFLECTION
Was to write with a partner a interview of what Michael's parents  must of been  feeling when Michael goes missing.  We had to have one person as Michael's parents and one as the interviewer asking questions.  I found it tricky because thinking of what questions to ask isn't easy because you have to an answer which was hard to think what are good questions and what are not.  My next step is to  write a better interview with questions that help to find out if Michael is alive or not and to figure out how he disappeared .

Was to make a type of art that represents me it showed what tribe I am from, What my name is, What my mountain and river are, and all the others.  I found it challenging and tricky because you had to think of your mountain, your river, your home and you had  a free side what was tricky because thinking of the words in Maori was really hard because of the Pronunciation.
My next step is to write a more better pepha .

Geometry 3D Shapes


                                MY REFLECTION
I am learning to recognise and describe 3D shapes using mathematical language.
I found it easy because I know my 3D shapes and it helped me to have the names on top to write the name if it. I had to find out how many faces, Corners(Verticles) and how many edges which was a little tricky because you don't know if it is the right number or not and it is good for your math which helped my learning. My next step is to learn all of my 3D shapes and keep learning my shapes!

Term 3 Week 6

Art Exhibition
Today we went to the Art Exhibition and had a hunt we had to go into pairs and try to guess the anwser's so we wandered around and room 23 was there doing the same thing as us and the first question was what was the name of the art exhibition and I think it was Paint My World and I think everyone knew that after we got to the a little bit harder question's but we got them anyway and the last one was sketch our favorite drawig and it was kind of hard because they looked so comlicted a little and after that Mrs M got us to sit down in front of her and then she told us to line up because we were going to go to cross country yeah!

Kensuke's Kingdom Chapter 2 Water,Water everywhere

Was to Think about the question's and the task.  I found it tricky and easy at the same time and it was easy with the template to find facts about my sea creature.  I choose to the porpoise because I hadn’t heard of it before.  Now I know it’s like a dolphin.  It was easy to find the information I needed to complete the diagram.  I think it’s easier to understand a diagram than it is to read about it.

Is to Think more clearly about the question's and anwser them in full.

Term3 Week3

On Tuesday the year 4's youth town and was taught tounder and over passes and side to side passes and we also learnt how to dribble the ball.  After we had a game it was sort of like ball tiggi but you had to dribble the ball like in basket ball so it was like  basketball tiggi 3 people were given a ball and I was one of them we had turn s the girls had to get the other girls that were'nt in.    Then it erwas the boy's turn to play basketball tiggi.  After that,  We were gathering round  to say good bye and ended it with our everyday clap and ''Good Bye'' To Dom, and went Back to  Class.

I was learning to identify the points of view in the story.  I had to read and record my ideas in a pros and cons table.  I found it difficult and a little bit easy at the same time to remember the words to answer the questions.  It was more easier to think of my own ideas and put it in the pros and cons box.  I choose to share my learning by creating a balanced argument . I thought it was easy because the frame helped me and the words stood out to me. My next step is to see's who's point of view isthe closest min in the stories I read.

Tree Planting

First, We got into our clothes because we were goingto plant native trees or plants.  Next, We came to a greyish gravel path just behind the school field.  When we followed the path some people played in the mud puddles onthe way.  Then, We meet three peole called Anna,Paul and Carl.  Carl explained how we were going to plant the native plants he showed us where to plant them which was on  a slope, he showed us how to dig the hole (Which had to be a square) and showed us this pill which was called a fertiliser we had to put it in before the plant was while he was showing us we were put into groups of two and had 1 shovel per group then got 2 plants and then the fun happened.  After, Shaniqua and I found a good place to plant the tree and we started to dig but Shaniqua couldn't pull the shovel out so we both tried and we got a perfect square so we kept diging till it was deep enough got the fertiliser put it in the hole put the plant in, covered it with the mud pushed it down a little and ...DONE!  At last we finised planting but only maneged to do 2 but at least we had fun.  After that, we washed our hands with the bubbly soap and the cold water and shouted goodbye to Anna,Paul and Carl and went back to class like a heard of Elephants and got back into our uniform.  My favourite part was using the shovel and having fun.

Term2 Week9

Martariki Rotation 

On Thursday we had a Matariki rotation we had to be mixed up in different numbers all the way up to 20 and we had to be with different people.  My first rotation was colouring in pictures we had half an hour to do it mine had lots of moari words like puke moana and Otakaro I didn't really understand the words but I was okay with it.  Next we did tiaha with Mutui fienze and I found it a bit challenging because we had to remeber the words to do the right actions but the stick was a bit to annoying with the feather on top.  Then we did string  games we had to partner up with this with the little ones to help them but I found this one the hardest because we had to make a cup and saucer but my partner helped me with the third part but in the end I did it I found it a bit challenging in the beginig but when I herd that on youtube there's string games on youtube I jumped up  happily.

Term2 Week10

Speech Sharing

On Monday the 8th of June we shared our speech to the class but we were split up so the year 4's shared in room 28 and the year 5's  shared in room 29.  The people who were going toshare had time to practice and the people who didn't want to share had to get a computer to give the people a 1,2 and 3  the people who shared there speech to th class were Nadia, Micah , Geogia, and others and one of those people were me we had time to practice our speech.  When it was time to share our speech we had to sit next to a person who had a laptop we all shared our speech till I had to share I was really scared to share till I got the shivrs off me.  My speech was based on Why Smoking Should be Illegal and my favorite tingspeech was read by Nadia her speech was about If the earth was an apple I found it really intrestng because of the decribing words and

Speech

This post is going to be about my speech. I decided to write it about smoking.



1. Did you know? That 5,000 people each year die from smoking?


2.Firstly, Smoking is a disgusting habit that can damage heart, lungs and brain.  It can shorten your life by 10 years or more.  Lots of smokers end up in hospital and this is not fair
on the other people who have serious injuries that might miss out on operations.


3. Secondly, people smoke for a number of reason.  Some people think it looks cool and fun… but it’s not.  Others start because their friends or family might do it but you shouldn’t smoke like them because it’s not cool or fun.
4.Thirdly, once you start, it’s hard to stop because you can get addicted to it.  Statistics show 9 out of 10 smokers start before they are 18 and they never think they’re going to get addicted.  So the message just don’t even start.

5.So I hope you were convinced to not smoke like your parent’s  and have a smoke free life.


My Reflection
I found it hard to write a speech because there were lots things that we had to think about like the introduction, reasons and the conclueson.
My next step is to focus on my speech and get more done.

Repeated Addition - Animal Legs

My Reflection 

I have been learning how to solve multiplication problems using  repeated addition.  I found this easy because repeated addtion was like times tables because we had groups and objects  like this for example 3x4 repeated addtion will look like 4+4+4=12 because there are 3 groups and 4 in each one.

My Next StepMy next step is to use repeated addtion in bigger questions and more harder times table quetions to help me.

Term 2 Week 5

On Friday Rm 28 went on a Te Tuhi trip but the weather was wet and foggy so we went in cars some people went in Mrs G's car, some people went in Mrs J's car and 2 kids went in there parent's car.  When we got there we had to wait for the other people because we were doing  a play about ''How the Kiwi lost it wings.''  We split the story so people had a chance to do something the characters were Tui, Pukekua, Tane , Pipiwharoro , Kiwi , A narrowtater and some bugs.  The narrowtater was Shaniqua, the Tui  was Blake , Tane was Jayden, Kiwi was Kayde , Pukekua was Abilasha and Pipiwharoro was Micah and there were trees.  The art we were doing with Jermey was called creative stories and we all did it based on ''How the Kiwi lost its wings''.

My Reflection
I was learning to identify character traits and compare characters based on these traits.  I had to look for  traits like Physical, social and emotional and one for other stuff about the character.  The hardest traits to find were the socail traits because there wasn't  much how they treat other people. The easiest traits were the emotional traits because the story told lots about how they felt and how her friends treat her.

I have been learning to round numbers to the nearest 10 and 100.
I found this easy because we learnt how to round  with Mrs Melville . We had to round the numbers up or down to get the answer  if it was 5,6,7,8 or 9 we round it up if it was 4 or less we round it down.
My next step is to round bigger numbers.

Term 2 Week 3

This week the Mayor Len Brown came to our school and we were so excited everyone had to go to the Assembly to have a Powhiri practice before he actally came.  When he came the bells went early and everyone if they can had to come at  8:45 and if they came late they had to go to the liabary.  When we arrived in the Assembly I was so excited to see him for the first time and the reason why he came is because he heard that we were a green/gold school and he wanted to see our school.  The songs we sang were EIAEI and Te Waka after we sang and Mrs Plowright said her words  Mr Len Brown and his team sang us a Waitia.

Term 2 Week2

This week Rm28 and Rm 29 learned about ANZAC day and about all the stuff the soldiers did when they were at the battle field.  Mrs Melville and Mrs Graham made a ANZAC Challenge and we had to go in teams my favourite ones were the art challenge and the Poppies Poppies everywhere.  When we where on the mat Mrs Melville took some kids over to make some ANZAC biscuits and the rest of us decorated cups to put Poppy seeds in.

Interpreting Diagrams

I have been reading Charlotte's Web Mrs Graham made a Charlotte's web challenge and sent it to the group.  I found this tricky because their were 8 questions and the hard question was the 1 one but I found it easy when I just guessed.  My next step is to try and think of where the body parts are and where parts of the web parts are.  I had to look at the pictures and read the captions to help me.

Addition - Number Squares



I was learning to add by counting from the biggest number first.  You start from the bigger number and count on the little number.  It was hard because the numbers started getting big.  My next step is to practise counting with big numbers.

100 Word Challenge

On one stormy windy night I heard screaming from out side my house ...BOOM! I looked outside my window. Suddenly I saw 20 people dead on the ground except one little girl the person who killed all the people. He went to her. The little girl saw red blood all over his pants and his black robe with a hood.  He pulled out a chain saw  and choked the girl and said "Your life ends here now!"  He chopped the girl's head off, taking the head and rubbed the blood on him and laughed wickedly "Aha ha ha ha ha!"
MY REFLECTION
Was to create a story with 100 words and use the  words that were given  to us and use them in 100 words.  I found it tricky because you had to count the numbers and put in as much detail in 100 words.

Term 1 Week 7

The 100 word Challenge
Room 28/29 have been learning about the 100 word challenge.  We had a look at a picture that Mrs Melvile show us on the T.V  the picture show like a person catching a weird eel.  We made a whole story with our own words and put it in a sentenese  we had to make sure it was 100 words because Mrs Melvile said it can't be more or less other wise it would'nt be called the 100 word challenge.  We had lots of fun  writing the story and we call the persons name Steve and we called the eel a plated eye eel.

Term 1 Week 6

This week Rm 28/29  have been drawing and coloring  a Pepeha all of us have made one.  Mrs Melville  found it on Facebook and then showed us.  Some of us have done there Pepeha  and some of us are still coloring or doing the lines.  Every ones Pepeha is different because it would look boring if it was all the same.  Every one has a river, a Mountain , there home and one that you can put any thing in.

Term 1 week 5

This week I enjoyed doing sports with Youth Town.  We played a couple of games.  My Favorite game was Capure the flag we had teams of the  bibs team and the non- bib team, Most of the time the bib team was winning but when Megatron said First team to sit down gets 10 point my team (the non-bibs) sat down first and we got ten points which was more then the bibs team.  The non bib boys and the other teams boys always got the ball and girls had to do all the work so Megatron changed the rules to girls can  only get the ball.

Term 1 Week 4

Yesterday  rm 28/29  made  some Chinese lanterns we put lots of red on it because Mrs Melville told us that red was lucky colour in the book called I love Chinese New Year.  Some of us got white paper and the others got coloured paper.  My lantern had lots of colour on it and Mrs Graham showed us how to write in Chinese.

My African Praise poem

My reflection.
I have been learning to  write an African praise poem.

I found this tricky because it was hard to make a chorus .  I found this work interesting because we compared  ourself to an  animal .  My next step is to learn how to use alliteration.

My Welcome post

Welcome to my Year 4 learning.  This year I am in room 28/29 and my teachers are Mrs Graham and Mrs Melville.   I enjoy drawing and writing.  This year I am looking forward to learn about math.  I hope you will enjoy my blog and leave lots of feedback.
